 Update:

The lake is at 100% capacity!
Bank anglers were  nailing rainbows at the dam and "Beach", but boaters trolled lures, Rapalas and similar.

In addition to the DFW planting soon , Collins Lake Resort will add another ton of fish on a weekly basis.

Please read for how to fish and where to fish Collins Lake!

Collins Lake is a 1,000 acre reservoir just a 30 minutes out of  Marysville known for late  winter and early spring trout action.
With panfishing, black bass  and  some good fishing on big catfish, but according ot our fishing report,  the best  trout fishing of the year in February and March  and good bass action shortly after.
So,  timing the lakes in the spring and as warming water changes the behavior is the key to  foothill area fisheries.
The winter offers lots of  12 to 15-inch trout all winter next to the dam  until temperatures come up through 60 degrees in March. But this year it could be earlier  because of the dry weather  dropped the lake 20 feet or so.
The early season has great  topline trout trolling with a 1/4-ounce gold  Kastmaster, but go with a No.3 to No.4 long Rebel or Rapala  if the water is over 60 degrees.
Not set up for trolling? A float tube, canoe or rowboat it‘s  possible to do well simply wind drifting a  lightly weighted red or size 12 Black Wooly  worm.  From the bank,  try to cast lures for trout in the  current where the creek enters the lake under  the bridge on the road to Oregon House.See our fishing map for reference.
Use a  small spinner here or off the point just east of  the bridge and you might pick up some nice  crappie too. The cove on the West side suits  bass pluggers a little later in the year. Blind  casting lures for trout can be done off the points  near the boat ramp.
Banks for the bass
Collins Lake  for smallmouth bass in  February is awesome and live minnows work best. But Little Rainbow Trout streamers  off points near the bridge just as good as bait. Try the long  cover inside point just below the bridge on the  marina side of the lake and the rocky coves  opposite the marina.  Optionally try ultralight and small purple and  motor oil Bobby Garland Jigs fished on the  drop near rocky cover most days.
If the water’s  still cold you may need to go deep with structure spoons for smallmouth. lf the water’s not right  for smallmouth, we go deep for largemouth  with bigger lures in east side coves. Plastic  worms here as there’s much cover in  the submerged trees and willows to snag expensive crankbaits.
Collins Lake Catfish
Most catfish hit after dark in the east corner  of the dam or in the submerged treetops along  the east bank. After storms the action shifts to the  tributary mouths on the north end of the lake.  While you can expect channel cats in the 10 to  15 pound range to six pound average, a 20-pound fish isn’t a surprise and all sorts  of pound bullheads snatch worms, liver and  minnow baits.
You do need at least thirty pound test if you  fish near the trees!
Collins Lake Panfish
Panfish seem to be everywhere on the lake.  Beginners catch bluegill near the boat ramp on  flyrods with flies. Experts fish small minnows  off inlets and in treetops or, on breezy days, fish  jigs under bobbers. Live crickets seem to take  the biggest bluegills; use small bobbers for  Crappie and don't be surprised at a bass or so. Favorite spot is hidden in the treetops across  the lake from the marina.
